Named for the second year in a row, Mr. Charest handles a wide array of complex, high-dollar commercial disputes involving a variety of oil & gas matters, commercial paper, estates and probate, and commercial contracts. Mr. Charest’s current oil and gas cases range from international arbitration over rights to drilling blocks off the coast of Africa, to lease challenges over production in paying quantities, to fighting oilfield corruption and well-site vendor over-charges, to establishing working interest ownership pursuant to various assignments and instruments, to royalty litigation across the major U.S. shale plays. Mr. Charest also serves as co-lead counsel for “the largest Fifth Amendment takings cases in history” relating to government-induced flooding after Hurricane Harvey along with a slate of commercial cases.
Honored as a leading antitrust lawyer, Mr. Burns litigates nationwide class actions involving price-fixing and other competition-related claims. Mr. Burns presently serves as the lead counsel for a class of direct purchasers in a suit consolidated in San Francisco against the five leading German automobile manufacturers alleging a decades-old conspiracy to stifle competition among the brands. Mr. Burns is also taking on the manufacturer and distributor of EpiPen injectors over a coordinated effort to monopolize the market and fleece consumers in a multi-district class action centered in Kansas federal court. Mr. Burns’s practice also encompasses other non-antitrust class actions and complex commercial cases. He has tried and litigated numerous class action and commercial cases involving transportation, royalty payments, contract breaches, securities, and the mortgage meltdown crisis.
